Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

At Meadowcroft Primary School, every teacher is a teacher of every child, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Meadowcroft values the individuality of all children. We are committed to giving all of our children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards. We do this by taking account of pupils’ varied life experiences and needs. We offer a balanced curriculum and have high expectations for all children. The achievements, attitudes and well-being of all our children matter. This policy helps to ensure that the school promotes the individuality of our children, irrespective of ethnicity, attainment, age, disability, gender or background.

We actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual pupils or groups of pupils. This means that equality of opportunity must be a reality for all our children.

Support provided may include one or more of the following – individual programmes of work within the classroom, personalized timetables, inclusion in small withdrawal groups and advice and involvement of one of the learning support services. We make reasonable adjustments for all our children. We regularly review our provision for SEND pupils and ensure consultation with parents through their child’s journey in school.

The Specialist Teachers for Inclusive Practice are a team of qualified teachers and experienced Teaching Assistants with specialist knowledge and practical experience in supporting children with SEND and additional needs. Their work involves engaging with families as well as school staff to support all children to thrive in our mainstream schools. Local authorities are required to publish a ‘local offer’ which is intended to provide information about provision available to children with special educational needs in the local area. All schools have been asked to provide answers to 14 questions that families of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, may find helpful. This is also referred to as the SEND Information Report. Please find a copy of this report below.

If you require any further information please contact the school SENCo (Special Educational Needs & Disability Co-ordinator), Mrs Gabriella May, via the school office on tel. 01932 561419 or by email info@meadowcroft.surrey.sch.uk
